Proposed legislation for an all-encompassing
Purple Heart license plate
Proposal:
That the Purple Heart license plate have equal status with the Disabled Veterans and Handicapped license plates.
Rationale:
Only Combat Wounded Veterans awarded the Purple Heart medal are eligible to obtain a Purple Heart license plate. These men and women have honorably served their Country in combat having placed themselves in harm’s way to maintain our freedom.
However, the present Purple Heart license plate, purchased at a price, provides none of the benefits of either the Handicapped or Disabled Veterans license plates. These brave Purple Heart Recipients deserve at least equal recognition.
Therefore, it is proposed that the legislative body of State of Florida authorize recipients of Purple Heart to receive a free Purple Heart license plate that carries the same benefits of both other license plates, such as parking in handicapped designated locations, free tolls and free airport parking for up to forty-five (45) days.
